Blueprint optimization is where In Falsus tips pay off fastest: a greedy Iota placement can cut a card to 56% stats — or kill it entirely at 0%. This guide walks through penalty math, Tolerance skills, and a practical workflow so you integrate once and get it right.

Penalty math — the whole card scales

Four placement mistakes each count as a penalty:

The multiplier applies to both Power and Defense:

  • 0 effective penalties → 100%
  • 189%
  • 256%
  • 3+0% (dead card)

Two penalties is not "a small tax" — it is nearly halving the card. Always run the numbers before you confirm Integration.

Step 1 — Fill zones for base stats first

Each colored Zone on the Blueprint adds base Power, Defense, or Trait Slots when filled. You cannot integrate until base Power and Defense are both above zero. Plan which zones matter for the Encounter you're building toward before worrying about squeezing extra Potency from risky cells.

Step 2 — Use Tolerance to break the rules

Some characters have Tolerance skills that ignore specific penalty types. That is what makes aggressive layouts viable: a placement that would be illegal on another character may be a clean 100% on yours. Check your character's Tolerance before copying a community screenshot — the same grid can integrate at wildly different multipliers.

Step 3 — When one penalty is worth it

Sometimes accepting one penalty (89%) is correct if it unlocks a much higher-Potency shape or an extra Trait Slot you cannot reach otherwise. Rarely accept two (56%) unless you are deliberately experimenting. Never integrate at three or more — rework the grid instead.

Step 4 — Iterate in the solver, commit in game

Iota are consumed when Integration finalises. Use the free Blueprint / Iota Solver to:

  1. Enter your expected base Power and Defense from zone fills
  2. Toggle each penalty your placement triggers
  3. Set character Tolerance
  4. Confirm the multiplier is 100% (or your planned 89%) before you spend materials

Common mistakes

  • Stacking overlaps to cram one more high-Potency piece — two penalties often costs more than the Potency gained
  • Ignoring Disconnect on multi-tile Iota — every piece in a shape must connect
  • Forgetting the Iota limit — Overload is the easiest penalty to trigger accidentally
  • Integrating before checking color — a perfect 100% card in the wrong color loses to a weaker advantaged one
