In Falsus Cards Explained: Iota, Blueprints & Penalties

The In Falsus card integration system explained — Iota colors and shapes, Blueprint hex placement, the color advantage cycle, Traits, and the penalty math.

Between rhythm stages, In Falsus is a card builder. The card integration system is where your long-term power comes from, and it's easy to sabotage yourself without noticing. Here's how every piece fits together, based on the public demo.

The loop at a glance

  1. Collect Iota — clear Encounters at Connected + Dive Clear or better to earn Iota materials.
  2. Fill a Blueprint — place Iota on a hexagonal grid to unlock the card's base stats.
  3. Select Traits — pick special abilities from your unlocked Trait Slots.

The output is a Card with Power, Defense, a color, and up to several Traits — the deck you take into future Encounters.

Iota: colors, shapes, tiers

Iota come in five colors and a range of shapes. Each Encounter has a fixed drop pool — typically 12 kinds (4 colors × 3 shapes) of a single Tier as of demo v0.3.0 — so if you need a specific color/shape combination, you farm the Encounters whose pool drops it. Beyond color and shape, each Iota has:

  • Tier — higher tiers contribute bigger numbers
  • Potency — the raw stat value the piece feeds into the card

Color, Tier, and Potency together determine the final card's Power and Defense.

Blueprint placement rules

The Blueprint is a hexagonal board containing one or more colored Zones. Each Zone you fill adds base Power, Defense or Trait Slots. The catch is the penalty system — four ways a placement can go wrong:

PenaltyTrigger
OverloadExceeding the Iota Limit
Out of BoundsPlacing on an unsafe cell
OverlapMultiple Iota on one cell
DisconnectIota group not connected

Penalties don't subtract a little — they scale your entire card:

  • 0 penalties → 100% stats
  • 1 penalty → 89%
  • 2 penalties → 56%
  • 3 or more → 0% — the card is dead weight

Always do a final penalty check before integrating. Some characters have Tolerance skills that ignore specific penalties, which opens up placements that would otherwise be illegal — this is the deepest optimization lever in the demo.

The color advantage cycle

Cards and Encounters have colors, and colors beat each other in a cycle:

Red → Green → Purple → Yellow → Blue → Red

The advantaged side gains ×1.25 Power and Defense. When choosing which five cards to bring into an Encounter, color matchups are worth more than raw stats in most cases — a weaker card with advantage often out-damages a stronger neutral one.

Traits

Trait Slots unlock as you fill the Blueprint. Traits are the strategic layer: some restore Resolve (your survival resource) mid-Encounter, others boost damage output. A balanced deck usually wants at least one Resolve-recovery Trait for longer Encounters.

Practical build order

  1. Decide the color you need for the target Encounter (check the cycle above).
  2. Farm Iota from Encounters whose drop pool matches.
  3. Fill the Zones with your highest-Potency pieces, zero penalties first, stats second.
  4. Re-integrate the same Blueprint with different configurations — integration isn't one-shot, though each run consumes the Iota you place, so plan placements before committing rare pieces.
