Start here if you want a practical In Falsus guide before the September 9, 2026 launch. In Falsus mixes keyboard rhythm play with mouse notes and a card system, so even experienced rhythm gamers start with bad habits to unlearn. These ten tips come from the public Steam demo and will carry over directly to the full release.
1. Rebind your keys immediately
The default LShift / A / S / D / F / Space layout strains the pinky and isn't intuitive. Remap before your first Encounter. Most players do better with their natural home-row position; experiment until holding all keys feels relaxed. Full keybind breakdown: controls guide.
2. Start on MIN, even as a veteran
MIN (4K) uses static finger placement — no lane switching. The keyboard part will feel easy, but the mouse notes won't. Let your mouse hand catch up before moving to EVO (5K).
3. FIELD notes: small movements win
Keep the cursor inside the purple zone with small continuous adjustments, not sweeps. When the cursor leaves the zone it turns red; linger too long and it briefly goes inactive, dropping every FIELD judgment in between.
4. FLICK notes: overlap, don't sweep
A flick only needs to overlap the note's horizontal span — not cover its full length. Left flicks are yellow, right flicks are green. Short, sharp wrist motions are more consistent than arm movements.
5. HOLD notes are more forgiving than they look
There's no release timing on holds. In FBD you can even transfer a hold between keys mid-note. Never drop a hold early "to prepare" for the next note — it costs you a free judgment.
6. Time your Resonance Gauge bursts
The gauge resets every Phase and, once full, multiplies damage ×5 for the rest of that Phase. Only EXACTs fill it — hit your cleanest streak early in each Phase so the burst window opens sooner and runs longer.
7. Know the score grades and Clear Types
| Grade | Score |
|---|---|
| EX+ | ≥ 99,000,000 |
| EX | ≥ 98,000,000 |
| AA | ≥ 95,000,000 |
| A | ≥ 92,000,000 |
| B | ≥ 85,000,000 |
| C | ≥ 80,000,000 |
| D | < 80,000,000 |
Grades reward consistency: one BREAK-heavy section hurts more than a slightly imprecise full run.
Clear Types are separate from score — they depend on accuracy and Miss HP:
| Clear Type | Condition |
|---|---|
| PD (Perfect Dive) | All notes EXACT |
| FL (Full Link) | No BREAKs, at least one NEAR |
| DC (Dive Cleared) | At least one BREAK, final Miss HP ≥ 0 |
| DF (Dive Failed) | At least one BREAK, final Miss HP < 0 |
8. Clear at Connected + Dive Clear for drops
Iota materials only drop at Connected + Dive Clear or better. If you're farming cards, a comfortable difficulty you can clear well beats a hard one you barely survive.
9. Respect the penalty math — use Tolerance
On Blueprints, one penalty cuts card stats to 89%, two to 56%, three or more to 0%. Character Tolerance skills ignore specific penalty types, giving you much more placement freedom on the hex grid. A "greedy" two-penalty layout is almost always worse than a clean modest one. Full breakdown: cards explained. Check penalties live in the Iota Solver.
10. Play the color cycle
Red → Green → Purple → Yellow → Blue → Red, with ×1.25 Power/Defense for the advantaged side. Check the target Encounter's color before locking your five cards. Simulate loadouts in the Loadout Simulator; estimate farming cost in the Iota Farming Planner.
Early Blueprint tip
The demo gives you two integrated cards — experiment with the same Blueprint multiple times for different Power/Defense mixes. Place Iota to fill colored Zones first; only chase high average Potency after you understand the penalty table. No controller shortcut exists — see controller support if you were looking for one.
