Coming to In Falsus from other rhythm games — or from no rhythm games at all — the keyboard+mouse hybrid takes real adjustment. These In Falsus rhythm tips for beginners focus on the fundamentals the demo lets you practice today: judgments, timing, and a sane difficulty ladder.

Understand the three judgments

Every note resolves to one of three judgments:

JudgmentWhat it means
EXACTOn-time hit — full score and damage, fills the Resonance Gauge fastest
NEARSlightly early/late — reduced value
BREAKMiss or badly mistimed — no value, breaks your chain

Your grade (EX+ down to D) is mostly a function of how many NEARs you convert into EXACTs. One BREAK-heavy section hurts far more than a whole run of slightly loose timing, so consistency beats bursts.

Calibrate before you grind

Play two or three songs on MIN and watch where your NEARs land. Consistently early or consistently late means it's a calibration problem, not a skill problem — adjust the audio/visual offset in settings before building any muscle memory on top of a skewed baseline.

The difficulty ladder that works

  1. MIN (4K) until mouse notes feel boring — static finger placement lets your ears learn the judgment windows.
  2. EVO (5K) until lane-switch sections stop surprising you.
  3. ULT (6K) when you can keep three fingers moving without looking at your hands.
  4. FBD (6K+) only after ULT feels comfortable — wide notes reward relaxed hands and punish tension.

Skipping steps builds panic habits (mashing, hand-tension, staring at the keyboard) that take longer to unlearn than the ladder takes to climb.

Keyboard hands and mouse hand are separate skills

The demo's real difficulty spike is the split attention between keys and cursor. Two practice patterns help:

  • Keys-only focus runs — pick songs light on FIELD/FLICK and push accuracy.
  • Cursor-only focus runs — pick FIELD-heavy songs, accept sloppy key timing, and drill small continuous cursor movements.

Training the weak hand separately raises your combined ceiling much faster than only playing "complete" songs.

Use the Resonance Gauge as a metronome for effort

The gauge resets each Phase and, once full, multiplies all damage ×5 for the remainder of that Phase. Only EXACTs charge it — so the earlier in a Phase you stack EXACTs, the sooner the ×5 window opens and the longer it runs. Front-load your focus at each Phase start instead of saving it for the end.
