You open In Falsus and the entire window is solid purple — the music plays, but no key does anything. Honest status first: this "mystery purple screen" was reported on the Steam discussion board in June 2026 and has no confirmed fix yet. The reporter tried rebooting, re-downloading the demo, and verifying files — none worked. What follows is what the report tells us, plus every general rendering fix worth trying in order.
What the Steam report says
The original report (June 30, 2026, Chinese-language thread): a player with 100+ hours opened the game one day to find the whole window purple. Audio kept playing, but no keypress had any effect. Restarting the PC, re-downloading the demo, and verifying file integrity all failed — while every other game on the same PC ran normally.
Two useful facts in there: the game process is alive (audio engine works), and the problem is specific to In Falsus (other games render fine). That combination usually means the game's render path is failing — a shader or texture that never loads — rather than dying hardware.
Not the bug: the purple Field region you track with your mouse during gameplay is intentional. The bug is the whole window going purple from launch.
Fix 1: Alt + Enter to windowed mode
A broken fullscreen handoff is the most common cause of "game runs, display is garbage" — it's exactly what fixes the black screen issue for most players. Press Alt + Enter; if the picture returns in windowed mode, set borderless/windowed in the graphics settings so it sticks.
Fix 2: Update — or clean-install — your GPU driver
Magenta/purple is the classic "something in the render pipeline is missing" color. Driver-level shader compile failures are the first suspect:
- NVIDIA / AMD / Intel: install the latest driver from the official site
- If a normal update changes nothing, do a clean install — NVIDIA's installer has a "clean installation" checkbox; for stubborn cases, use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in safe mode, then reinstall
Fix 3: Disable every overlay
Injected overlays hook the render pipeline directly — and rhythm games are unusually sensitive to them:
- Steam: Settings → In Game → disable the Steam Overlay
- Discord: Settings → Game Overlay → off
- GeForce Experience / NVIDIA App overlay, MSI Afterburner + RivaTuner, FPS monitors, screen recorders: all off
Then relaunch the game.
Fix 4: Match resolution and refresh rate
A mode your monitor can't actually display can render as garbage:
- Set the game to your desktop's native resolution
- Drop the refresh rate to 60 Hz as a test (Windows: Settings → Display → Advanced)
- If you use display scaling above 100%, also try the high-DPI override on the game exe (Properties → Compatibility)
Fix 5: Verify the game files
Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. Be aware: in the original Steam report this did not help. It's still a 2-minute check that rules out corrupted shader/texture files, so run it once — just don't expect it to be the answer.
If nothing works: report it properly
This bug has no confirmed community fix as of August 2026. The most useful thing you can do is give lowiro a report they can reproduce:
- Your GPU model and driver version
- Windows version, monitor resolution and refresh rate
- Whether it happens from launch or after a specific screen
- Whether Alt+Enter or windowed mode changes anything
Post it on the Steam discussion board — lowiro ships demo patches regularly (the demo is already on v0.3.x), and display bugs tend to be device-specific, so detailed reports are what get them fixed. Keep an eye on demo patch notes for a rendering fix.
FAQ
Why is the screen purple? Full-window magenta almost always means a rendering failure — shader, texture, driver, or overlay. In the reported case the audio engine kept working, so the game itself was alive.
Is there a confirmed fix? No. The June 2026 report says reboot/reinstall/file verification all failed, and no solution has been confirmed since. The steps above are general GPU troubleshooting, not a known cure.
Purple but music plays — what does it mean? The process is alive; only rendering is broken. Same family as the black screen issue — start with Alt+Enter and display modes.
