In Falsus launched on September 9 — and here is the unusual part: the full release has no crash problem. The first reviews are Very Positive, ProtonDB lists In Falsus as Platinum on Steam Deck, and the launch-window discussion board has no new "game crashes" threads. Every confirmed fix below comes from the demo window (February–March 2026), when In Falsus did crash for a lot of people — and when lowiro shipped a crash-focused patch within 24 hours.
Why keep demo-era fixes? Because they are the only ones anyone has actually confirmed, and this page only lists fixes with a named player report behind them. No "verify your files" filler, no generic driver advice — if a fix has zero In Falsus-specific confirmation, it is not on this list. The demo engine carried over to the full release, so these remain the first things to try.
Is the full version crashing?
As of September 10, 2026: no confirmed full-release crash reports. The launch news post lists no known issues, and there is no day-one patch. If the full version suddenly crashes for you, you are early — report it on the Steam discussion board with your specs, then try the demo-era fixes below while you wait.
If your symptom is black screen with music still playing, that is the fullscreen bug, not a crash — press Alt+Enter and see the black screen fix guide for that path.
Fix 1 — Audio devices: the only cause players have confirmed
Three separate players traced launch failures to audio hardware, from three different angles. This is the strongest cluster of confirmed evidence the game has:
- Black screen on launch → lower your Windows output sample rate. One player: changing the setting from 32-bit / 384 kHz down to 24-bit / 96 kHz resolved the issue. (Windows Settings → Sound → your device → Properties → Advanced.)
- Black-screen freeze with the GPU pinned at 80–90% and FPS in the thousands → unplug external sound cards and USB audio devices and launch on onboard audio. The reporter confirmed this ended the freeze on a Win 10/11 desktop.
- Instant silent crash on launch → switching audio sources or disabling audio exclusive mode helped one player get the game to start — though in their case it only worked once per change.
The official side backs this up: the demo v0.2.1 patch (one day after the demo launched) explicitly included crash fixes and improvements to audio device setup. If In Falsus misbehaves at launch, your audio configuration is the first thing to change.
Fix 2 — Turn off the Discord overlay
One player confirmed that disabling the Discord overlay stopped their launch crashes — with two honest caveats from the same thread: for another player quitting Discord entirely did nothing, and for a third the crash returned after two days. Discord is the only overlay with any confirmed effect on In Falsus; Steam and GPU-driver overlays have no player-confirmed cases either way.
Fix 3 — Softlocked on a story line? Use Autoplay
During the demo, one conversation froze the game on a specific line and survived restarts. The workaround that worked: enable Autoplay in the dialogue and let it push past the stuck line. That is a bypass, not a fix — but it unblocks the story.
Confirmed broken with no fix yet
These demo-era reports never got a resolution, and no full-release equivalents have appeared:
- Startup BSOD (the whole system crashes) — one thread, no fix.
- White screen with background music still playing — no replies.
- Songs play silently with only hit sounds — no replies; if this hits the full version, see the no sound fix guide for the in-game audio buffer fix.
- Mac (native and CrossOver) input failures at the main menu — no official response.
Steam Deck and Linux
Nothing to fix: ProtonDB lists Platinum based on 13 reports, and launch-day Linux players confirm it "worked out of the box" without touching Proton settings. The full Steam Deck guide covers key layouts if you want to tune controls.
What we deliberately left out
Plenty of crash articles will tell you to verify game files, update GPU drivers, run as administrator, or reinstall. No player has ever confirmed any of those fix an In Falsus crash — one player even reinstalled and the crash came back two days later. Do them as generic Steam hygiene if you like, starting with checking you meet the system requirements, but do not expect them to be the fix. When the demo's crash wave hit, the real answers were the audio settings above — and lowiro's patch, not the checklist.
Still stuck?
lowiro fixed the demo's crashes one day after that launch, so patches are realistic — but for the full release there is no known-issues page yet and no developer replies inside crash threads. Post your symptoms (and hardware) on the Steam discussion board, and if you are on the demo side of things, the demo not-launching guide keeps the full demo-era checklist.
We re-check the board and the news feed 48 hours after launch; if the full version grows its own crash cluster, this page gets a new section first.
