In Falsus has no official Steam Deck support and no controller mapping — but the demo is playable on Deck through Proton if you accept keyboard-and-pointer controls. This guide covers what works, which Proton build to use, and how other Deck players handle Field notes.

Step 1 — Install GE-Proton

Stock Proton often breaks intro video and background images in the demo. Community reports on ProtonDB favour GE-Proton:

  1. Switch Steam Deck to Desktop Mode
  2. Install ProtonUp-Qt (Discover store or Flatpak)
  3. Install GE-Proton10-32 or GE-Proton11-1
  4. Return to Gaming Mode → In Falsus Demo → Properties → Compatibility → force that version

If intro images still fail, try Proton-CachyOS as an alternative.

Step 2 — Controls that actually work

In Falsus requires:

  • Six Floor keys (one hand) — rebind from the default LShift row in settings
  • Mouse pointer for Field and Flick notes — continuous movement, not stick snaps

Practical Deck setups:

  1. Keyboard + right touchpad (most common) — map touchpad as mouse, use Deck keyboard for lanes
  2. USB keyboard + mouse in Desktop Mode — most comfortable for serious play
  3. Community Steam Input + gyro — browse SteamInputDB for shared configs that map face buttons/bumpers to keys and gyro to cursor; expect a learning curve

The game does not read mouse buttons as lane keys in the demo — external remappers (AutoHotkey on Windows, community tools on Deck) are workarounds, not official features.

Step 3 — Performance and quirks

  • VN sections used to stutter on Deck; GE-Proton 11-1 reports largely fixed this
  • High mouse polling rate can break menu hover — lower to 125–500 Hz if clicks fail
  • Audio sample rate: if launch hangs, lower Windows-style output to 96 kHz when testing via Desktop
  • Battery: rhythm + VN is moderate load; 60 FPS cap is fine

Step 4 — Linux desktop (non-Deck)

Same Proton advice applies on desktop Linux. Arch/Fedora users report GE-Proton11-1 or Proton-CachyOS for video playback. Missing WMF codecs on some distros may need protontricks — check ProtonDB for your distro.

What not to expect

  • No official gamepad or Deck gyro profile from lowiro
  • No macOS or native Linux build announced
  • Field notes will not feel good on pure analog stick — plan for pointer input
